SS. Cyril and Methodius School first began as an idea by Reverend Stanislaus Lozowski . His ideas came to fruition when the first SS. Cyril and Methodius School was erected on Governor Street and its doors were opened to 117 children. Year after year the school population increased, space decreased and walls began to burst. Under the circumstances, a new plan had to be devised.
Consequently, in the early Spring of 1922, the young and energetic Pastor, Reverend Stanislaus Musiel, together with his parishioners, launched the enormous project of building the new SS. Cyril and Methodius School on its present site of 35 Groton Street in Hartford.
From its very beginning, the Felician Sisters staffed SS. Cyril and Methodius School. As times changed, the staffing of the school changed but the philosophy and mission of the school and dedication of its faculty and staff continues to be upheld.
Our present day SS. Cyril and Methodius School continues to uphold the traditional teachings of the Catholic church and school while incorporating modern advancements in the classrooms. Visitors to our school will see us studying religion or performing science lab experiments. They may hear us singing in our choir class or making music on our instruments. They may see us giving a presentation on our SmartBoards or they may not see us at all because we are out giving our service on a community project or on a field trip.
