About Gillis Center School
School-Based Day Treatment
Since the 1960s, Gillis has opened its classroom doors to students from the metropolitan and surrounding areas. Focusing on the unique potential of each child allow youth the chance to grow academically while developing basic life skills and appropriate social skills. By providing an array of therapies and services, we enable each child to grow at his individual pace. Our goal is for students to successfully return to their neighborhood schools.
Students
For over 40 years, Gillis School has provided educational and therapeutic services to children. We are licensed to provide services for emotional disturbance, specific learning disabilities, autism, other health impairment, mental retardation, speech or language impairment, and traumatic brain injury to children who do not have the skills to function successfully in a public school setting. Gillis School accepts boys and girls between the ages of five and twenty-one with below average to above average intellectual abilities.
Services
Each classroom is staffed with a certified teacher and a para-professional. The elementary, middle school and high school accept children K-12, with a classroom capacity of 10. Gillis School limits class size to 8 to 10 students.
