Optimist Youth Homes and Family Services offers 4 different educational programs. The first is our nonpublic school (NPS) called Optimist High School, which is located on their main campus. Optimist High School is a state certified, nonpublic, special education high school, which contracts with a variety of school districts including: Los Angeles Unified, Inglewood Unified, Pasadena Unified, Long Beach Unified, Glendale Unified, and several others. The NPS program educates students in a specialized manner utilizing a ratio of 1 staff for every 4 students and serves their residential, group home, and up to 80 community students who qualify for special education and have Individual Education Plans (IEP) stipulating their attendance of a NPS. Eighty percent of their community students were previously in their residential program and now live within their transportation boundaries allowing them to continue in their school as a part of their Aftercare program.
