World Impact's Newark Christian School ( NCS), established in 1984, is dedicated to supporting the goals of World Impact-Newark in its ministry to urban residents of the greater Newark community. NCS is located in a former vocational training high school building, which also houses other World Impact-Newark ministries.

Newark Christian School is unique in its ability to minister to the urban poor families by providing a quality education for these families and by building firm godly foundations for students to have a life of discipleship by helping them develop academic competence, Christian character and self-confidence. Like all World Impact schools, NCS prepares its graduates to take advantage of educational opportunities and make substantial and positive contributions to the Kingdom of God.

The kindergarten through sixth grade student body of around 80 students is about 50 percent African-American with the remainder being recent immigrant families from Africa, the Caribbean Sea, Central and South America. Families who are involved in the ministries of World Impact are given first priority for admission. Many families apply to the school after having NCS recommended to them by friends at church.

Faculty
Most of our teachers are missionaries who raise their own support and live in the same neighborhood in which they teach. This enables them to be involved in the family life of their students outside the classroom. Our missionary teachers are unusually committed to their community. As in all World Impact ministries, the NCS teachers also serve with our local community ministries.

Each year Newark Christian School has openings for qualified elementary school teachers who are willing to raise their financial support.

School Program
Newark Christian School students participate in a rich and demanding curriculum, which emphasizes the development of multiple learning strategies. The Bible is taught at all grade levels and biblical truth is integrated into the curriculum when appropriate. All students memorize Bible verses and recite them at our weekly chapels. Christian values are taught, emphasized and modeled by all of the school staff.

Along with the spiritual emphasis, NCS has a strong academic curriculum. Language arts, social studies, science, math, physical education, and music are taught in each grade. Enrichment activities include art, computer, weekly school library visits, and field trips. A day camp enriches the education of younger students during their summer break.

School personnel recognize their role to support families in the godly nurturing of children. NCS works along side of the parents in raising godly leaders (Deut 6:5-8) NCS enjoys a high level of parental involvement in school programs and other events. Most of our parents take advantage of our after-care ministry to provide a safe environment for their children to work on homework and participate in after school activities while they are still at work.
