School Calendar
In keeping with the desires of the Archdiocese of Los Angeles and recognizing the numerous benefits of an extended school year for our students and families, Saint Ferdinand Catholic School provides a 200-day school day calendar for the 2012 - 2013 year. The final 2012 - 2013 school calendar will be published in June.
Tuition, Fees and Payment Plans
The school contracts with Smart Tuition Systems for its tuition and fee collection. All families are required to use Smart for tuition and fee payment. Every family will be charged a fee of $22 for Smart services on their first tuition bill. This fee is charged once per school year.
Parents have the option of making tuition payments over 11 or 12 months. The 11-month payment plan will begin in July and end in May. The 12-month payment plan will begin in July and end in June. Parents also have the option of choosing the due date of their tuition payments: either the 1st or 15th of the month.
Payments must be received by Smart on the established due date or a $30 late fee will be charged to the family's account. Smart will also charge an Insufficient Fund Fee of $25 for failed automatic debit transactions.
Parents who fall behind in tuition for more than one month will be required to pay the full remaining tuition balance for the year in the second month of default or their child's enrollment in the school will be terminated at the end of the second month of default. A family that is experiencing financial hardship should discuss the situation with the principal immediately to avoid these consequences. No exceptions for non-payment will be granted.
Parish Rates
At Saint Ferdinand Catholic School we offer two rates to our community. The first rate is the Parish Rate which is offered to families who meet the following criteria:
-Currently registered or willing to register at the parish
-In regular attendance at Sunday mass
-Use the parish envelope for weekly contributions of $10 or more ($500 annually for the school year from July 1st through June 30th)
Families who meet and keep these criteria throughout the school year will enjoy reduced tuition rates for the 2012 - 2013 school year. Families who sign up for the Parish Plan but then fail to meet the obligations of the plan will automatically be placed on the Non-Parish Plan. Families who receive financial assistance from the school will jeopardize this assistance if this should occur.

As with the School Emergency Cards, it is paramount that this information remains current throughout the school year.
Parents who elect to use the Extended School Care Program on a regular basis will be charged a monthly fee according to the schedule of fees published below. Parent Service Hours
Education is most effective when our school works together with our school families. While we are blessed to have the support of a number of our school families, we also recognize the need to have all of our families involved.
In the 2012 - 2013 school year, all families (regardless of the number of children in the school) will be required to complete a total of 35 service hours according to the following the schedule:
Six (6) or more hours at two different school-sponsored events (3 hours each)
Not transferable to regular school day service hours, but with approval from the principal may be covered with donation of goods for school events
Fifteen (15) or more service hours at the 2013 parish fiesta
Not transferable to regular school day service hours, but with approval from the principal in extreme situations may be covered with donation of goods for the fiesta
Fourteen (14) or more service hours through the school year
May be covered with donation of goods for school events
The last fourteen (14) parent service hours can be served by helping at the school or donating items the school has requested. Families will receive credit for one (1) service hour for every $15 donation made to the school. A receipt may be required for the donation of goods to the school. Parents/Guardians may not complete more than 5 hours of service with any one event in the school year. The parish fiesta is the only exception to this policy.
The school will publish opportunities for service or goods needed in the weekly Parent Bulletin and on the school website. Parents should contact the school to verify that the need for service or goods still exists before making a donation.
Although not encouraged, parents also have the option of paying off their service hour obligation for the school year. The fee for this is $600.
Families will be billed in June for any service hours not completed in the school year at a rate of $15 per hour. If none of the service hours have been completed at the end of the school year, the family will be charged a flat rate of $600.
Parents will be issued receipts for the hours they served or for goods donated. Please hold onto these in the event that there is a discrepancy in our records. The Vice Principal will monitor all parent volunteer hours. All volunteer business will be conducted with the Vice Principal during after-school hours.
