About St. John Vianney Catholic School
2012-2013
Tuition Information
In the past few years, many of our families have experienced tremendous financial setbacks and yet have prioritized their commitment to provide their children with a quality Catholic education. These times are difficult for the Catholic schools also as they make serious efforts to hold down costs, while still improving the educational value. At St. John Vianney School, we are able to move forward due to the strategic long range planning and the commitment of our parents and staff. St. John Vianney School's tuition is an affordable tuition with a resolve to help those families who need tuition assistance. Some families may be able to pay the full per pupil cost while other families need assistance. Please note that currently no family is assessed the full cost. We must rely on everyone to assist us as much as possible to make up the difference between the tuition and the per pupil cost of an education at St. John Vianney School. In the true sense of a community, no one may step back and allow others to take on the full responsibility.
The 2012-2013 tuition reflects an increase of $1.25/day for one child from last year. We continue to offer a significant discount for additional children. Volunteer hours and fundraising commitments are essential elements in meeting the year's budget, thereby, helping to make up the gap between tuition and the cost to educate your child.
1. Tuition Schedule:
Our goal is to provide affordable tuition to as many SJV Parish families as possible. At no time would we want families to give up the education at SJV School because of finance. To that end, our tuition schedule is a single schedule for all grades K-8. The tuition increase is due primarily to the increased costs of insurance, employee health and retirement benefits. There is no cost of living increase to the Diocesan teachers' salary scale.
Parent Service (Volunteer Hours): 45 hours - No Increase but a Change
All families are required to complete a minimum of 45 volunteer hours. A portion of these hours must be served as a committee member. These valuable hours significantly save money, provide new and creative input to the school, and increase our sense of community and the educational value at SJV.
A fee of $50 per hour is due for those families who have not reached the 45-hour goal. For example, if you only completed 43 volunteer hours by April 30th, 2013, you would owe 2 volunteer hours at $50 per hour or $100 for 2012-13. Any shortfall of hours needs to be paid prior to registration or graduation (if you have a last child graduating).
2. Cash Flow - Direct Tuition Payment
An Electronic Fund Transfer (EFT) of the non-refundable registration fee of $450 per child will be processed on June 10, 2012.
Tuition is an annual rate; however families have the option of an 11 month payment plan. EFT of your tuition payment will be processed on the tenth (10th) of each month beginning July 10th, 2012 through May 10th, 2013.
Advance Payment Discount: If your tuition obligation is received in full on or before July 1st, 2012, you receive a 2% discount on tuition only. (This could result in a significant cost savings.)
On the 17th of the month any tuition payments returned as non-sufficient funds will be resubmitted along with a $30 NSF fee and a 5% late fee added to the regular tuition payment.
3. Out of Parish Fee - No Increase
A SJV Parish family is defined as a Catholic family who is registered at least 1 year in SJV Parish, regularly using the envelope system, and actively participating in the parish through worship and service.
Out-of-parish families will be charged an additional $400 per student (no change from last year).
4. Fundraising Commitment - No Increase
The fundraising minimum commitment is $400 per child. In addition, parents have the choice of a œbuyout of their fundraising commitment. We will continue this buyout as it offers parents a potential tax savings (consult your accountant). The current fundraising program offers parents a variety of choices to help make up the gap between tuition and the true cost to educate their children.
5. eScrip
All new families are required to have 6 active eScrip participants by October 1st, 2012. Each family will be charged annually an additional $50 for each registrant short of the goal. See the fundraising packet for escrip information.
6. Annual Fund
Since the Annual Fund benefits every child, it is expected that every family make an effort to contribute to the Annual Fund. The Annual Fund is a development not a fundraising effort to allow for an immediate need to be met without impacting the annual tuition. In 2012-13, the annual fund was designated for tuition assistance and improvement to the internal/external communication system.
Budget:
St. John Vianney School's total budget for the 2012-13 school year is $4,528, 825. This translates into a cost of $ 8,863 to educate your child at St. John Vianney School. No one pays this cost in tuition alone.
Even with the high costs of insurance, employee health and retirement benefits, the budget allows us to continue to make advances in instructional practice, meet curriculum needs and provide staff development to increase the quality of our academic program, to facilitate other major capital improvements such as technological upgrades, and to improve the school facilities, all of which keep SJV School a quality Catholic school. In addition, we are able to increase our scholarship/tuition assistance program for those families needing help to meet their financial commitment.
How Do I Meet the Fundraising Commitment?
Any combination of the following options plus active participation in eScrip will fulfill your fundraising obligation:
— supporting Gift Wrap, Sees Candy Sales, Magazine Drive, Walkathon (% return fluctuates), OneCause.com
— purchasing SCRIP from 5/1/12 - 4/30/13 (4% rate of return, e.g. $2,000 SCRIP purchases = $80 return)
— writing a check for $400 per child
— supporting the eScrip Program. A minimum of 6 active eScrip supporters with individual ID #'s is a requirement for all families. Monthly rebates require minimal maintenance.
